Property Tax in San Diego Takes a Bite Out of April!

Property Tax is Due April 10th in San Diego…ouch!

The second installment of your property-tax bill is due April 10.

homes_r620x349Missing this deadline will mean a 10 percent penalty and a $10 fee, said the San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office.

To date, 54 percent of roughly 980,000 mailed tax bills haven’t been paid, the agency said. This year’s property taxes, if all collected, would generate $4.56 billion.

Taxpayers can pay their bills by phone, mail, at a branch location or on the web.

Some of the usual reminders:

• Cash is no longer accepted at the branch locations and is only accepted at the downtown office, 1600 Pacific Highway. Checks and money orders are accepted at all the offices.

• You can pay your bill by mailing your payment, calling (855) 829-3773, visiting, or going into any office: 1600 Pacific Highway, room 162 in downtown San Diego; 590 Third Avenue in Chula Vista; 200 South Magnolia in El Cajon; 9225 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., in Kearny Mesa; and 141 E. Carmel Street in San Marcos. The offices will offer extended hours, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on April 10.

• The tax collector’s office accepts major credit cards including MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover. If you pay with a credit card, then you will be charged a 2.25 percent fee on your property tax bill. To avoid the extra charge, pay online with an e-check, said San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister.

This always puts a damper on my Birthday also being April 10th!
