Carmel Valley is located in the Northwest corner of San Diego County. Surrounding communities include Del Mar, Del Mar Mesa, Torrey Hills, and Pacific Highlands Ranch. It is approximately 20 miles from downtown San Diego. Carmel Valley gets its name from the Carmelite Sisters of Mercy, who established a dairy farm and monastery in the area in 1905. Torrey Pines State Reserve is nearby and is home to the endangered Torrey Pine tree.

Carmel Valley is a master planned community and has an estimated population of 42,000. This is an ideal place for families because of the abundance of schools to choose from. Award winning schools such as Torrey Pines High School and the newer Canyon Crest High school are both standouts in San Diego. The main middle school is Carmel Valley Middle School and there are over ten elementary schools to choose from.

Carmel Valley™s location is ideal because everything is centrally located. The beach is no more than a 5-10 minute drive, schools are close wherever you live, and shopping is convenient. The closest beach access to Carmel Valley is Del Mar. Most people that live in Carmel Valley go to Del Mar for their beach activities, and specifically, Powerhouse Park.

Companies with a presence in Carmel Valley include: Oracle Corporation, Fish and Richardson, US Bank, The Allen Group, and Scripps Health, just to name a few. If work is downtown, the commute is 20 minutes.

In the mid 90â€™s Shannon started a contract manufacturing company in San Diego servicing the Biotech, Medical Device and Defense Industries. After 10 years of being 1 of only 2 women in California to direct and lead a company in this field, Shannon retired from her position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing to start a more enjoyable career in the real estate sector.
